Safety & Security Policy
Version: v1.0 · Effective: 22 Sep 2026 · Last updated: 22 Sep 2026
Safety is a core product feature, not a paid add-on. This policy describes the platform's safety framework — verification, incident response, prohibited behaviour, and how we moderate.
1. Four layers of safety
The platform is built around four overlapping safety layers:
- Identity verification — KYC and driving licence before publishing.
- Vehicle document verification — RC, insurance, fitness, PUC tracked to expiry.
- Operational monitoring — attendance, ratings, reliability score, automated backup assignment.
- Incident response — in-app SOS, safety desk, moderation panel, audit-logged escalation.
No single layer is optional or upsold. A user only rides when all applicable layers are active.
2. Provider verification
Every provider completes KYC and document verification before publishing a route. See our KYC & Document Policy for the full framework. Driving licence validity is tracked continuously with reminders at 60 / 30 / 15 / 7 / 1 day milestones and on the expiry day.
3. Vehicle verification
Each vehicle is verified at registration and re-checked on document renewal. Vehicle fitness, insurance, RC validity and PUC validity are tracked. The platform never permits operation with expired vehicle documents after notice.
4. Identity & conduct
On every trip, both driver and passenger can see each other's verified first name and avatar. Both parties are expected to:
- Carry a valid photo ID for the duration of the trip;
- Not misrepresent their identity;
- Treat each other with respect regardless of gender, religion, caste, language or any other characteristic.
5. Pickup / drop safety
Pickup and drop points are pre-published by the provider. The platform surfaces the agreed pickup time, name of the provider and the vehicle registration number. Passengers may share the live trip link with nominated contacts via SMS from the trip screen.
6. Women-safety features
- Women-only route filter: routes where the provider has opted in to women-only service are filterable.
- Women-preference matching: the backup matcher respects women-co-rider preference when the passenger opts in.
- Trip-share: one-tap link to up to 5 nominated contacts who can see live pickup, drop, driver, and ETA.
- Anonymous incident reporting: incidents can be reported without revealing the reporter's identity to anyone outside the safety team.
7. Prohibited behaviour
The following are grounds for immediate suspension and (where applicable) criminal referral:
- Harassment, intimidation, threats or verbal abuse.
- Physical violence or assault.
- Sexual harassment or any form of unwanted contact.
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance.
- Reckless driving, racing, or use of a mobile phone while driving.
- Carrying unauthorised passengers or charging fares outside the platform.
- Discrimination on the basis of gender, religion, caste, language, disability or sexual orientation.
- Stalking, surveillance or unwanted follow-up contact.
8. Reporting & SOS
The in-app SOS button is the fastest path to safety response:
- Tap SOS on the home screen.
- Your live GPS pin is shared with the 24×7 safety desk.
- Your nominated emergency contacts are notified by SMS with the live trip link.
- A tamper-proof incident record is created in the moderation queue.
You may also report non-urgent safety incidents through the Report incident flow, with description, category, and (optionally) location. Reports are visible to the safety team only.
9. Investigation & moderation
The Fraud & Moderation panel reviews every incident report. Each case has an owner, a status (open / under investigation / resolved) and a disposition (no action / warning / suspension / escalation). Outcomes are communicated to the reporter where their identity is known.
10. Suspension & emergency escalation
Verified safety violations lead to:
- Immediate account suspension pending review;
- Withholding of unpaid earnings where fraud is involved;
- Reversal of associated ledger entries via append-only adjustments;
- Referral to law enforcement where applicable;
- Notification to relevant authorities if required by law.
11. Emergency response — what we do & do not do
Travel Sathi facilitates emergency response. Specifically:
- We do maintain a 24×7 safety desk that receives SOS events.
- We do notify your nominated emergency contacts.
- We do create tamper-proof incident records for law-enforcement follow-up.
- We do not dispatch police, ambulance, or fire services ourselves. If you are in immediate danger, contact the relevant local emergency number (e.g. 112 in India).
12. Contact
For safety-related questions or incident reports, write to safety@travelsathi.online. In-app SOS is the fastest path to a live response during a trip.
